Hi, does anyone know what modem UltraFibre 1Gig Unlimited comes with? Is this modem anything like the awful Bell Home Hub 3000? Can this modem be bypassed like how the Home Hub from Bell can?

[INTERNET] Bandwidth upgrade on UltraFibre 40

I'm on UltraFiber 40, with a grandfathered loyalty discount that expires in October. I've noticed on the myaccount website that Cogeco has raised my monthly download limit from 175GB to Unlimited with no increase in cost. Have others had the same experience? Personally, I'm happy with the 40Mb/s speed and I rarely come close to downloading 175GB. I'll have to see what they can offer when the discount expires in October. The current advertised monthly rate for 40/Unlimited is $10 more than for 40/175. All other packages, from 15M to 1G, include unlimited download only.

So long and thanks for all the price increases

Recently switched to MNSI, but came across this interesting article about Cogeco: https://www.bnnbloomberg.ca/room-for-reasonable-price-increases-for-tv-internet-cogeco-ceo-1.1285817 Enjoy your "reasonable" prices increases current customers. Though, if the Cogeco website is functioning properly, it appears that monthly prices have been lowered. Which is odd, because the CEO states that competition shouldn't affect their pricing or revenue. Oh, Cogeco, it was nice knowing you.

Have 120 internet with the infamous arris modem/router TG3452A. The router randomly turns off wireless internet; sometime it comes back on, sometimes I have to do a soft reset. This happens about once per day, and is a pain. Calling support has been a waste of my time. I am checking out my options right now, and will make a move soon. Oh well.

Ultrafibre 1gbit low upload speed?

A door to door sales person from Cogeco came by my house the other day. They were offering one gigabit fiber service but then the upload speed was just 30 megabits per second does anybody know why the upload speed be so poor on fiber? Not that I'm going to go with them, but it would be a lot more compelling if the speed was symmetrical. I'm thinking it's not real fibre to the home. Does anyone know?

Why tech visit required for modem swap?

Due to ongoing intermittent loss of connectivity issues with DPC3848VM, have arranged for tech visit to test line and to swap modem. Got the tech support rep to agree to swap out modem no matter what was found with line, as this has been an ongoing issue for months. Every few weeks I lose connectivity for anywhere from 4 to 10 hours. Seems to happen, mostly, after a rainstorm. What I find odd is that they won't let me just go to the storefront and swap out the modem, which would save a visit (good for me,good for cogeco). They said because I have Tivo, a visit was required. Anyone know why?

[INTERNET] Just got Gigabit but not getting full speed

I already have a Arris TG3452A modem so when I checked my address and it said Gigabit was available I called today to get upgraded. Within 5 minutes my modem resynced and I was at a new speed. But currently I only get about 300 meg down hardwired on a laptop with a gigabit ethernet port plugged right into the modem. I do get about 28-29 upload now which is a lot better than the 8-9 I had on the 120 package. What are other getting on this package as far as wired speed? It's only 10 bucks more a month than the 120 but if this is the fastest I can get I should just downgrade to the 360 package and save the 10 bucks. Thanks

This modem has 4 ports, I have to plug into it directly to get fully 1 gig speeds. If I plug into the other ports with other devices will they all get public IP addresses as well?

Temporary Cables

Has anybody had experience with Cogeco temporary (??)cables running across their property? The cable box is on my property and even though I don't have Cogeco, my neighbours on both sides use Cogeco. They both have temporary lines running from the box in my front yard, around my house, along my back yard and then down the side yards to feed their houses. One cable has been there for 14 months, the other for 5. Cogeco's stated "standard" is less than 12 weeks to arrange burial. The one cable has been there so long that they had to replace it once as the original wouldn't survive the winter with snow removal. The 3 of us have called Cogeco repeatedly and no results. How can we make Cogeco bury the wires?? Instead of moving the wires next time I cut my grass I'm thinking I'll just cut through them - would that make them move quicker??

Any other Twitch streamers out there? Just got the 1000/30 service installed in St. Catharines yesterday (hurray for real internet!) and when I went to stream to twitch with my usual settings that work flawlessly on bell getting nothing but dropped frames and packets, a little researching and apparently Rogers customers with these modems have the same issues - anybody out there find a solution? Streaming at 1500kpbs up isn't an option. Thanks.

Getting cogeco gigabit service installed soon

I have a question about how this will be installed(BTW I'm switching from bell). I'm getting one 4k tivo box with recording and hopefully the hitron modem. Will the coax coming in go to the modem first, then with coax cable go to the 4k receiver followed by hdmi from receiver to tv? If that's correct then next I would run an ethernet cable from modem to a switch and from there to the rest of the network (which I would take care of myself). The length of the ethernet cable going to the first switch from the modem is probably about 40 feet long. Will the tech guy supply that or do I need to buy it myself?

Just had 360/30 internet put in

Hi - just upgraded from 250/20 to 360/30 in the Oakville area (Falgarwood). Required new modem install. Tech was here for no more than 15 mins once I told him to just bridge the modem - and I will use my own router and wireless. Tested and the speed is actually 372/29. The upload almost never goes above 28 to 29. It'd be great to get higher upload speeds as all the backups and pics and video and working from home all depends on upload speeds into the cloud (not just down). Hopefully they eventually uncap it - sounds like the issue now is bandwidth. TV channels use a lot of bandwidth. Once they go IPTV - every customer would likely need a new TV cable box and only then could they kill the legacy TV service. At this rate - IPTV hasn't even been rolled out yet - implementation could take a looooong time. I like Cogeco - but at this rate I'm hoping that Bell shows up with new fibre lines in the neighbourhood. That might happen before Cogeco gets this whole 1 gig thing working upstream....

Are there Ontario based "approved vendors" by Cogeco where I may purchase (not rent) 4k ultra HD receivers? I need to upgrade my current receiver. TIA for help or any advice!

TiVo box swap in storefront

TiVo box died (3 flashing lights, which I understand to be hard drive failure) but I now have to wait until til Tuesday for a tech to come and swap. Can't do a storefront swap. Incredibly frustrating. I've worked in tech for 40 years, how complex can it be to configure the box for my address and let me have tv service back today? Even if something went wrong, it would be worth the attempt, no? Grrrrrrrrr

[INTERNET] 3 months experience with Cogeco

During the three months with Cogeco I believe we had 12-14 tech visits. The reason - Internet dropping and modem had to be rebooted to get the internet back. I am on the third modem. This time it is Coda-4589 Hitron. Problem the same. (I am not using my router.) Internet connection drops from once a day to few times a day and it does not recover unless modem is rebooted. I had a tech visit on Tuesday and he said that the problem is in the signal being too high. He installed some filters and guarantied that this will solve the problem. And it did not. On Wednesday morning, afternoon and late night the connection dropped and modem had to be either reset, or powered down to get the Internet back. Any suggestions? I may have to switch to back to Bell to have slow but reliable Internet connection.

[INTERNET] coax cabling

Hi, I want to relocate my cogeco wifi router more centrally in the home to improve the signal, ideally in a closet on the main floor. Right now it's sitting next to the electrical panel which is not ideal according to cogeco faq, and of course the cable is short. What cable can I use? Is the RG6 that I can get at big box store acceptable or could that degrade my signal?
