Being an active member of this forum for over 16 years, and a Cogeco customer since they came to Windsor, I've been pleased with Cogeco products and services; and with help from Cogeco Peter and the retention agents, I've kept the monthly pricing tolerable and on the outside limits of my budget.
Back in May, I got a price increase notice, and again, retention came through to keep my bill under my "red line". At that time, the agent said I'd need to contact them again in 6 months to renegotiate.
Today, I received my July billing, and the amount had jumped more than $30.00 from the rate negotiated in May!!!
Without an "insider" pleading my case, I struck out with retention (they did offer a token reduction), and now I'm well over my "red line". I didn't want to make a last second decision to leave - it takes time to make arrangements to change 7 email addresses, repurpose web pages (yes, I have COGECO web pages - from nearly 20 years ago) and find a suitable replacement for all my services.
But after spending almost 45 minutes on the phone (including hold time), I've reached my breaking point. I've committed to another 12 months to get a rate that's "only" $20.00 per month more than I can really afford. And then, I'll be gone.
There are enough Cogeco resellers that I should be able to get comparable service at a lower price. As a pensioner, I don't have money to burn. Spending an extra $20.00 per month over what I thought I would be spending is a real shock. And, it's not like I'm a pig about their services. I like the speed I get, and with a Netflix account, I like having the option to occasionally use my unlimited bandwidth. Prior to getting Netflix a year ago, I would average between 10% and 20% of my allowable bandwidth, but binge watching Netflix during that first month prompted me to switch to unlimited.
Now, without someone like Cogeco Peter who's known me and my contributions to Cogeco (as a computer service person, I recommend Cogeco all the time) I guess I'm "just another Joe"... and that's not going to fly.
