Cogeco and support for ?mature? equipment

I’ve posted about this before, but I have more information at my disposal so I thought I should at least rant a bit before letting this go. I have an admittedly old PVR - Pace TDC 777D, maybe ten years old, bought at Costco. Cogeco did rent out this device, however it has long since been replaced with newer models. It has issues, but has actually been working better with the new guide, less pixelation and it seems, longer buffering. Anyway earlier this year, the PVR suddenly lost its PVR functionality, it became just a simple tuner. As it turns out, it’s a ‘flaw’ with the guide software update. It’s fixed by a simple reactivation. But of course you need to wait until the guide reloads, more importantly you lose the favourites, which need to be reloaded. I’ve complained to the CSR, to no avail. They tell me this is the way to fix the problem. But the way to fix the problem is to fix the guide software so that my PVR isn’t disabled with every software update (which is most likely just adding a different advertisement to the guide). I believe Cogeco is purposely not fixing the guide because they want me to rent a new PVR. But the PVR hardware is fine (I do plan to upgrade if/when Cogeco rolls out 4K). How do you folks feel? Do I have a leg to stand on? I know I’m cheap, but that’s irrelevant. At least I would like Cogeco to admit they are doing this on purpose, and not hiding behind some excuse like the unit is out of support.
