I've heard of this happening twice in the past year or so, people who were directed to call a scam company for remote repair for their computers and I'm curious if this is an official Cogeco corporate scam or phone support representatives who are directing them to a scammy company for kickbacks?
I just resolved a friends' issue with their Arris modem, a Cogeco problem yet the support representative my friend called stated their was nothing wrong on their side and was told by Cogeco she needed to call a number provided by Cogeco for a service to have the issue fixed. She called the number, spoke to someone with a foreign accent that tried to help her but eventually told her she had to take it to somewhere to have it fixed. This Cogeco company charged her for this.
She took it to Best Buy who found nothing wrong but charged her a diagnostic fee, then she called me for help.
I experienced issues with my laptop and her Arris modem. We had the modem swapped for a different modem and that resolved the problem.
It seems Cogeco or Cogeco employees are scamming customers for Cogeco issues!
Anyone have any insight?
