Hi all,
First time poster (but regular reader).
I received an email from Cogeco Security earlier in the month stating "You are receiving this email as it appears your network is running a NTP server that is vulnerable to being used in denial of service attacks.....If you are aware that you are running a NTP server we simply require you to secure your NTP services' along with links to sites describing DoS attacks. I'd received the same email from them a couple of months ago and was told - no worries, all is good.
Today service was suspended and after a lengthy call with ( a very pleasant lady) from Cogeco - they reinstated service but said I need to disable NTP server.
I'm a reasonably bright guy but know diddly about networks etc. Asked how I was to determine "if" I was running a NTP server (very simple set up here, iMac and a couple of laptops running on Netgear WNDR3300 router) - she talked to someone and came back with "it's probably your router, access the router and turn NTP off".
So, I did as she said - logged on to the router and could find zero about NTP. After quite a search on Google - no wiser.
So - help! I have no idea what to do next, what questions to ask, where to look.
Any direction to a simple guy would be appreciated. Thanks!
